Press Release: SPACE ONE and Sarmony Sign Memorandum of Understanding for Satellite Launch Services Targeting a KAIROS Launch Opportunity for Sarmony in 2028

2026.08.26

SALT LAKE CITY, August 26 2026 -Sarmony Co.,Ltd. (“Sarmony”) and SPACE ONE Co.,LTD. (“SPACE ONE”) are pleased to announce that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the launch of a small satellite mission being developed by Sarmony.

Under the framework of this MOU, the two companies will work toward a technology demonstration mission aboard SPACE ONEʼs KAIROS launch vehicle, targeting 2028. In addition, the companies plan to continue discussions regarding the sustained launch of approximately ten KAIROS missions carrying Sarmonyʼs demonstration and operational satellites from 2029 onward.

Sarmony is pursuing the commercialization of a highly frequent, high-resolution Earth observation service based on a future constellation operating in very low Earth orbit (vLEO). The service will utilize the companyʼs Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Earth observation satellite, SAR DiskSat, which is based on the thin-profile satellite platform DiskSat. In March 2026, Sarmony was selected for support under the second phase of JAXA Space Strategy Fund, “Support for Demonstration of Innovative Satellite Mission Technologies ”1) and is currently developing an X-band SAR DiskSat technology demonstration satellite.
SPACE ONE will contribute to Sarmonyʼs business expansion by providing dedicated, flexible, and responsive launch services for the development and deployment of its satellite constellation.

This SAR DiskSat concept was presented at the 40th Annual Small Satellite Conference, being held in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, from August 23 to 26, 2026.

Statements
Hirobumi Saito, President & CEO, Sarmony

“The realization of the very low Earth orbit satellite constellation we envision requires flexible and high-cadence space transportation services capable of delivering satellites to the required orbit exactly when needed. SPACE ONEʼs concept of ʻAnytime, Any Orbitʼ represents precisely the type of transportation infrastructure satellite operators are seeking. KAIROS will serve as an important launch platform supporting the deployment of future vLEO constellations. We have high expectations for its establishment as a reliable launch service that will support Japanʼs satellite industry.”

Masakazu Toyoda, President & CEO, SPACE ONE
“The SAR DiskSat constellation envisioned by Sarmony is an innovative initiative that maximizes the capabilities of small satellites and represents an ideal application for the KAIROS launch vehicle, which has been specifically optimized for dedicated small satellite launches. We are delighted to have reached this agreement and will strive to provide launch services that meet our customersʼ expectations, contributing not only to the launch of the technology demonstration satellite, but also to the future deployment of the full constellation.”

About DiskSat and SAR DiskSat
DiskSat is a disk-shaped small satellite platform originally developed by The Aerospace Corporation in the United States. Its thin and lightweight configuration makes it well suited for long-duration operations in very low Earth orbit, where atmospheric drag is significantly greater than in conventional low Earth orbit. The platformʼs geometry also enables multiple satellites to be efficiently stacked and launched aboard small launch vehicles.
Building upon the DiskSat platform, Sarmony is developing SAR DiskSat, integrating the companyʼs proprietary SAR technology to enable a future constellation capable of delivering high-frequency, high-resolution Earth observation services.
